The Book: Hiking the Carolina Mountains
Praise for Hiking the Carolina Mountains by Danny Bernstein
See the table of contents
The mountains of Western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina are a hiker’s paradise—rich with human history, and home to some of the greatest biological diversity in the world. Hikers here are treated to thousands of miles of trails offering fantastic views, stunning wildflower and fall foliage displays, and gigantic trees in old-growth forests.
The book takes you beyond the most well-known hikes in the region. Hiking the Carolinas is the first hiking guidebook to include Dupont State Forest, Panthertown Valley near Cashiers, and Green River Game Lands near Hendersonville in North Carolina, and also lists eight hikes in upstate South Carolina, an area largely undocumented in other guidebooks.

BOOK REVIEWS
With concise directions, Bernstein sends us out to explore not only the well-known hiking destinations, but also the places, such as Dupont State Forest and upstate South Carolina, that have been neglected by other guides. This is also more than just a turn left, turn right type of guide. The author provides us with tidbits of information about the human and natural history we will see on the hikes, and even tells us about books and movies that were set in these locations. A valuable, informative-and needed-addition to any hiker's library. -Leonard M. Adkins, author of Walking the Blue Ridge: A Guide to the Trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway
