Hickory-Nut-Gorge
Chapter 7 sample - Florence Preserve and Chimney Rock Park

The spectacular Hickory NutGorge was carved by the Rocky Broad River, which drops 1,800 ft. in elevation over eight rugged miles from Hickory Nut Gap to the banks of Lake Lure.
US 74A, historically known as Drovers Road and now a state scenic byway, was used long ago by farmers to drive their flocks to market through Hickory Nut Gap.
Chimney Rock Park is probably the most iconic section of Hickory Nut Gorge. It became a North Carolina State Park in 2006, thanks to the perseverance of conservationists and outdoor folks.
