Pilot Mountain in Pisgah District

Climb Pilot Mountain for great views into both Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. These views make it a favorite any time of the year. If you go in
May, the area is covered with pinkshell azalea, a rare flower native to only a few mountain counties in North Carolina.
Take the Art Loeb Trail north to Farlow Gap and FS 229 back to your car.

Trailhead: From NC 280 in the community of Pisgah Forest, go north on US 276 to enter Pisgah National Forest. Drive 5.5 miles and turn left on Fish Hatchery Rd. (FS 475). Continue 6.4 miles to Gloucester Gap, a four-way intersection; the road turns to gravel after the turnoff to the Cove Creek Group Camp.
