North West North Carolina
Chapter 2 Sample - Stone Mountain and Doughton Park
Stone Mountain (not to be confused with Stone Mountain in Georgia) rises 700 ft. out of the surrounding valley. The signature feature of Stone Mountain State Park, north of Statesville, is a spectacular granite rock dome, which you could drive to until the early 1970s.
Doughton Park, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway near its halfway point around milepost 245, offers 30 miles of trail, all well-marked, connected, and diverse.
