Deep Creek Loop - Kephart's Last Stand

millstonedeepcreek.jpg

This lovely hike starts at the Deep Creek entrance of the Smokies.

The trail follows Deep Creek past a waterfall, campgrounds and mixed woodlands to Campsite #57, Horace Kephart's last permanent campsite. The picture is of a millstone, put up soon after Kephart's death by the Boy Scouts.

A short, steep section on the Martin Gap Trail and then downhill on the Indian Creek Trail where you will find another waterfall. Some rockhopping may be needed.
