Ellicott Rock Wilderness

chattoogarock.jpgThe Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area, in the Nantahala National Forest lies at the point where North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia meet. Because Georgia disputed the border in the early 19th century, Andrew Ellicott was hired to survey the border. The border is now marked with three rock inscriptions.

From the Walhalla Fish Hatchery, take the East Fork Trail. Then pick up the Chattooga River Trail north to Ellicott Rock. There is a sign pointing down to the river. Be careful going down to the rock since it is muddy and slippery.
